Studies attribute 40-60% of the borehole failures to corrosion of the galvanized iron (GI) and stainless-steel parts. This study evaluates unplasticized materials (UPCV, CPVC and HDPE) as alternatives. Laboratory tests (ASTM D610, D638, B117) and Design analyses assessed corrosion resistance, Mechanical strength and pressure endurance. Findings show that metallic parts corrode at 0.74-1.13mm/year while unplasticized materials exhibited zero corrosion, demonstrating high tensile strength (38-41MPa). CPVC and HDPE proved more durable for cyclic components (Rods) (FoS >3.0) with uPVC suitable for riser pipes (FoS=2.4). Using these materials can reduce maintenance by 30% and improve water quality. The study recommends piloting and updating national standards to include unplasticized materials as sustainable cost-effective solution across 32 sub-Saharan African countries relying heavily on borehole water.Assessing the Use of Unplasticized Materials in Boreholes to Prevent Corrosion
