Item Effects of social factors on children's academic performance(UGANDA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY, 2024-09-16) Akoragye MeryelThe academic performance of children in institutional settings, such as Masulita Children’s Village, is influenced by various social factors. This study seeks to examine how peer relationships, caregiver support, and the overall social environment within the village impact the educational outcomes of these children, who often come from vulnerable backgrounds. The study adopts a child-centered perspective, focusing on how these children perceive their academic journeys within this unique setting. The specific objectives of the study are to: (1) examine the influence of peer relationships on the academic performance of children, (2) explore the role of caregiver support in shaping the educational outcomes of children, and (3) investigate how the social environment affects children's motivation and engagement in their studies. Data will be collected using qualitative methods, including interviews and focus group discussions, to capture the lived experiences and perceptions of the children. Key research questions guiding the study include: How do peer relationships influence the academic performance of children? What role does caregiver support play in their academic success? How does the social environment within the village contribute to or hinder their motivation and engagement? The findings will offer insights into how social factors interact with educational attainment, providing recommendations for improving support structures for vulnerable children in similar institutional contexts.
