To assess drug abuse and academic performance in Universal Secondary Education schools in the Industrial Division of Mbale Municipality. The survey evaluated the drug abuse and academic performance, socioeconomic factors and academic performance in Universal Secondary Education found in the Industrial Division. It establishes socio-demographic factors and academic performance in schools. The study is cross-sectional, taking both Qualitative and Quantitative approaches. Information was collected from more than 79 respondents in the area using a semi-structured questionnaire and interview guide. A purposive sampling technique was used to select research participants. Data analysis was done using tables. The outcome shows that drug abuse leads to school dropout, supported by almost 49% of participants. The drug addicts perform poorly in class and usually are poor class attendants. Family income contributes to 46% of the are stable and 28% of those with or from lower incomes. As noted before, socio-economic factors of drug abuse, like peer pressure, are up to (31%) then gender (55%). On the other hand, are demographic socio-demographic factors of drug abuse that significantly influence academic performance such as place of residence (43%) and age (55%) The poor performers and school dropouts are the drug addicts; those from affluent families especially in towns do drug abuse irrespective of age and influence. The law enforcing agencies activate laws and strategies to control drug and Drug abuse in schools. Policies should be put in place, regulations that help in curbing drug related vices among students and strive to undertake and lift effective learning processes
