Item EFFECT OF DIVORCE ON PSYCHOSOCIAL WELLBEING OF CHILDREN IN BUNGHOKO SUBCOUNTY, MBALE DISTRICT(2024-09-09) WASAGALI L_BSWASA_2024.pdfDivorce is increasingly a serious problem the world over and the public is alarmed by the high rates of divorce cases. This study is to explore the effect of divorce on psychosocial wellbeing of children in Bunghoko Sub County, Mbale district. Specifically, the study investigate the factors contributing to divorces in Bunghoko Sub County, Mbale district and assessed the effect of divorce on psychosocial wellbeing of children in Bunghoko Sub County, Mbale district. The study also explored interventions for preventing divorce and improving psychosocial wellbeing of children in Bunghoko Sub County, Mbale district. The study used qualitative case study design to analyze data from the study area with the help of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The researcher collected data from 80 respondents in the study area who were selected using simple random and purpose sampling and questionnaires together with interview guide were used to collect data. The study discovered that Infidelity which also referred to as 'adultery' and commonly known as 'cheating' on one's partner- is near the top of the list of reasons for divorce and infertility may results into divorce. It also found that domestic violence is one of the factors contributing to divorce and divorce can be caused by misuse of social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Other contributing factors found by the study included the need for women empowerment has contributed to rising divorce cases and divorce has been caused by gender inequality. Study findings also show that problems such as more ant-social behaviors or mood disorders and anxiety may be encountered by children after divorce and children tend to be affected psychologically when there is a disruption in the family's connectedness and togetherness. Children who suffered from parental separation when they were adolescents and in early adulthood suffer from depression and children who suffered from parental separation when they were adolescents and in early adulthood suffer from depression. The study put forward interventions to prevent divorce and promote the wellbeing of children and these included the is need to create support systems that foster resilience and provide stability in all areas of their lives. And strengthening marriage laws that promote marriage as an enduring institution and encourage dialogue between partners. It was also revealed that addressing the issues of domestic violence comprehensively so as to protect individuals in families and addressing socioeconomic and cultural barriers that perpetuate gender inequality. The study found that strengthening justice institutions like LC courts and police to solve marital problems and prevent dissolution of marriages. The study recommended putting in place measures of strengthening marriage laws that promote marriage as an enduring institution and encourage dialogue between partners and sensitize the population about the dangers of alcohol addiction. Other recommendations included the need by NGO, civil society and government to create support systems that foster resilience and provide stability in all areas of their lives and government and stakeholders should address the issues of domestic violence comprehensively so as to protect individuals in families.
