Nabweru south ward in the Southern division of Nansana Nabweru is gradually experiencing urbanization due to its proximity to Kampala city center. This has resulted in increased surface runoff which overwhelms the road drainage channel in the area. The Naluuma Road drainage channel is approximately 805m long with irregular sections, some of which are stone pith lined, others earthed and vegetative lining. A reconnaissance survey to obtain channel attributes was conducted to investigate the portable cause of flooding in the area. The runoff generated in the area was determined by analysis of the hydrological characteristics of the catchment. The 25- year return period design storm was used to analyze the hydraulic capacity of the Naluuma road drainage to determine the inadequacies of the channel. Channel geometry modifications were carried out using modeling software to ensure adequate capacity to handle runoff and mitigate flooding with a proposed concrete lined trapezoidal channel with an estimated cost of 1.376 billion and estimated benefit – cost ratio of 1.867 to be realized in ten (10) years thus making it a worthwhile investment.
