| dc.description.abstract | This project presents the design and development of AutoAid, a location-based roadside assistance system aimed at improving emergency response and vehicle support services in Uganda. The study addresses key challenges such as delayed assistance, lack of verified service providers, and poor coordination during vehicle breakdowns and road accidents, which contribute to increased road fatalities, congestion, and economic losses. A mixed-methods research approach was employed, incorporating interviews, questionnaires, and observation to gather requirements from motorists and service providers. The system was designed and developed using modern technologies, including Kotlin for the Android mobile application, React for the web platform, Node.js for the backend, and MongoDB for data management. The system integrates GPS-based location tracking to connect users with nearby service providers in real time. The developed system enables motorists to request assistance services such as towing, mechanical repair, fuel delivery, and ambulance support through a mobile application, while service providers and administrators manage requests via a web-based platform. System testing results indicate that Auto Aid improves response time, enhances service accessibility, and promotes transparency through features such as real-time tracking, notifications, and user feedback mechanisms. The findings demonstrate that Auto Aid provides an effective, reliable, and scalable solution for addressing roadside emergencies in Uganda with the potential to improve road safety and support through t the integration of digital technologies in the transport sector. | |
