Item Mediation(Uganda Christian University, 2025-06-04) Cynthia Cecilia NannyongaAccess to justice remains a significant concern within uganda’s legal framework particularly due to delays, costs, and procedure complexities associated with the formal court system. Mediation has emerged as a promising alternative dispute resolution mechanism to address these challenges. This study examines the role and effectiveness of mediation in Uganda’s dispute resolution system. Recognizing challenges in the formal court processes, it explores mediation’s potential to improve access to justice. The research focuses on the legal and institutional framework, practical implementation, and barriers to mediation’s success. Using qualitative methods, including doctrinal analysis and empirical data from legal practitioners, the study identifies key gaps and proposes reforms to strengthen mediation as an element of justice delivery in Uganda. The study concludes by proposing practical recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and acceptance of mediation. Strengthening institutional support, conducting public sensitization campaigns and enhancing the capacity of mediators are essential steps towards the realization of mediations promise as a cornerstone of Uganda’s justice system .
