Abstract
ABSTRACT
This dissertation is focused on studying the role of automation in the warehouse planning at Coca Cola plant located in Namanve industrial area, Mukono district. The study specifically focused on three main objectives: to identify the forms of automation of warehouse planning, to examine the benefits of automation in warehouse planning, to investigate the challenges of implementing automation in warehouse planning. To achieve these objectives, a quantitative research design and purposive sampling technique was employed and the information was collected using questionnaires.
The findings of the research showed that forms of automation in warehouse planning such as automated guided vehicles, automated storage and retrieval systems, warehouse management systems, Internet of things, collaborative robots among others enhance efficiency and productivity levels within an organization as well as help to reduce need for human labor in complex activities.
The research study also revealed the various benefits of automation in warehouse planning such as enhanced efficiency and productivity, enhanced accuracy and reduced room for errors, flexibility and scalability among others which come the use of automated technologies within the warehouse.
The research study also talked about the numerous challenges faced in a warehouse which uses automated technologies such as high initial costs, integration complexity, lack of workforce adaption and training, high maintenance costs that cause setbacks within operations of the warehouse.
The findings of the study recommend that Coca cola company should suitable financial strategies, enhance integration processes, prioritize workforce training and development and establish a maintenance and management plan to help and counteract the numerous problems associated with automated warehouses.
