Depression among adolescents in hospital cells is a growing concern, with various contextual factors contributing to its development. This study investigates the societal, and environmental factors that influence depression among adolescents in hospital cells in Mbale City. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. Additionally, the study reveals that adolescents in hospital cells experience high levels of depression, attributed to factors such as stigma, social isolation, and lack of support from family and peers. And, environmental factors like overcrowding, poor living conditions, and limited access to healthcare services exacerbate depressive symptoms. The findings of this study highlight the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing depression among adolescents in hospital cells, considering the interplay of contextual factors. Implications for policy, practice, and future research are discussed, emphasizing the importance of tailored interventions that address the unique needs of this population. By understanding the contextual factors contributing to depression, we can work towards creating supportive environments that promote mental health and well-being among adolescents in hospital cells.
