This research investigates the determinants, individual and community level consequences, and intervention strategies related to drug abuse among youths in Kisenyi slum, Kampala, Uganda. Through a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data, the study explores socio-economic, environmental, and psychological factors contributing to the prevalence of drug abuse. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews with a sample of twenty youths and five elders or prominent community members. Findings reveal high unemployment rates, pervasive poverty, and peer pressure among others as significant contributors to drug abuse, while inadequate educational opportunities and dysfunctional family environments exacerbate the issue. The study also highlights severe individual health complications and community-level disruptions as consequences of drug abuse. Finally, recommendations for intervention strategies are provided, emphasizing awareness and education programs, economic empowerment initiatives, and strengthened law enforcement efforts. This research aims to inform stakeholders and policymakers to develop effective measures to mitigate the drug abuse problem in Kisenyi slum.
