dc.description.abstract | This dissertation seeks to explore the problems encountered, and coping mechanism employed by refugees in Ofua zone within rhino camp refugee settlement. The research objectives are structured to shed light on the reasons behind migration of refugees to Ofua zone of Rhino camp, the challenges they face, and the survival and coping mechanisms they employ to navigate their daily lives in refugee settlement. The first objective aims to uncover the underlying reasons that drive the refugees to the refugee settlement. This investigation will look into the sociodemographic and environmental factors and economic pressures that contribute to this phenomenon. The second objective focuses on the challenges confronted by the refugees in the refugee settlement. It entails a comprehensive examination of the physical, emotional, and social hardships refugees endure, including issues related to food security, healthcare access, education, and exposure to violence. The third objective centers on assessing the survival and coping mechanisms adopted by these refugees to navigate their daily lives. This research will investigate how these resilient individuals leverage their limited resources and social networks to secure basic necessities and protect themselves from the dangers in the camp. To address these research objectives, this study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and surveys with some of the refugees, their families, and relevant stakeholders, as well as quantitative data analysis to derive meaningful insights into the multifaceted lives of the refugees in Ofua zone of Rhino camp. Through the examination of these research questions, this dissertation seeks to contribute to the broader understanding of the circumstances and experiences of refugees in the camps.
