Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the multifaceted issue of youth unemployment in Namatala Slums, Mable Industrial Division, focusing on its contributing factors, social impacts, and potential interventions. Using a sample size of 384 respondents, the research aims to identify key drivers of high youth unemployment, assess its effects on social issues such as crime, substance abuse, and social exclusion, and propose targeted policy reforms and interventions. Data collection was carried out through structured questionnaires, analyzed using SPSS for both descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings reveal that major factors contributing to youth unemployment include inadequate access to quality education, limited vocational training opportunities, insufficient job prospects in the formal sector, and economic instability. The study also highlights significant links between youth unemployment and increased crime rates, substance abuse, and social exclusion. To address these issues, the research proposes a range of interventions, including the expansion of vocational training programs, the introduction of job creation schemes, support for youth entrepreneurship, and the implementation of gender-sensitive employment policies. Recommendations also emphasize the importance of community-based initiatives, effective monitoring and evaluation of employment programs, and the role of public-private partnerships. This study provides valuable insights into the complex dynamics of youth unemployment and offers practical solutions to mitigate its adverse effects, aiming to improve the well-being of young people in Namatala Slums, Mable Industrial Division.
