Abstract

This study sought to establish the effects of gender inequality on the socio-economic empowerment of women in Ogolai Sub-County, Amuria District, Uganda. Gender inequality remains a pervasive issue with profound implications for the socio-economic empowerment of women, particularly in rural regions of Uganda like Ogolai Sub County in Amuria District. This research study endeavored to comprehensively investigate the multifaceted effects of gender inequality on the socio-economic empowerment of women in this specific geographical context. Drawing upon a mixed-methods approach, this research examined the disparities in access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and land ownership between women and men in Ogolai Sub County. The study also assessed the extent to which prevailing gender roles, patriarchal societies, and gender stereotypes influence the status of women in the community. Additionally, the research investigated the economic consequences of gender inequality, including income differentials, financial dependency, and limited access to credit and entrepreneurial resources for women. It also explores the psychological and emotional toll of gender-based discrimination on women's self-esteem and aspirations. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the localized challenges and opportunities for addressing gender inequality in Ogolai Sub County, thereby fostering more effective interventions to enhance the socio-economic empowerment of women. This research underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of gender inequality, advocating for policy reforms, and promoting gender-sensitive initiatives that enable women to lead more economically self-reliant and fulfilling lives. Ultimately, the study's insights aimed to inform the development of strategies and programs that promote gender equality and empower women, with the expectation that a more equitable society will lead to improved overall socio-economic development and well-being in Ogolai Sub county, Amuria District, and beyond.
