| dc.description.abstract | This research report was undertaken to the effect of alcoholism on the socio-economic wellbeing of the people in Nambale sub-county, Mbale district. It was guided by three objectives; to analyze the relationship between alcoholism and socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county, to determine the effect of social cultural influences on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county, to find out the effect of co-occurring mental health on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. The researcher used a sample size of 63 respondents and used questionnaires and interview guide to collect data and later the data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results of the first objective showed that there is a positive relationship between alcoholism and socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. Supported by the following responses; 54% individuals with alcoholism experience higher rates of poverty, financial instability; 62% were positive to the statement that individuals with lower income or education levels are more susceptible to alcoholism; 61% of the respondents were positive to the statement that socio-economic disadvantage limit access to recreational activities and resources, driving individuals toward increased alcohol consumption as a coping mechanism. Results of the second objective revealed that social cultural influences have a significant effect on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. Supported by the following responses; 56% of the respondents were positive to the statement that peer pressure and conformity within social groups can influence individuals' economic behaviors and choices, 80% of the respondents were positive to the statement that cultures that prioritize personal achievement and success may foster economic growth and higher socio-economic well-being. Results of the third objective showed that co-occurring mental health has a significant effect on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. 51% had a positive response to the statement that co-occurring mental health disorders can hinder an individual's social participation and quality of life. The government should provide accessible and quality education to all individuals can help enhance their skills and knowledge, which in turn can improve their socio-economic well-being and understanding of diverse cultural perspectives. | |
