| dc.description.abstract | The research examined social work interventions supporting women with postpartum depression (PPD) in low-income communities of Mukono Municipality. Guided by cognitive behavioral theory and ecological systems theory, the study adopted a qualitative descriptive design. Data was collected through interviews with 20 participants including affected women, social workers and health workers. Findings showed that PDD is caused by financial challenges, lack of partner support, domestic violence and negative cultural beliefs. Social work interventions including counselling, home visits, referrals and support groups were found effective in reducing symptoms and improving maternal wellbeing. However, social workers had to deal with issues like stigma, cultural views, heavy workloads, transportation difficulties and a lack of funding. The study comes to the conclusion that although social work treatments are beneficial, they are limited by a lack of resources. Increased government funding, the creation of parish level assistance and giving home visitation programs top priority are among the recommendations. | |
