dc.description.abstractThe study aimed to assess the increased drug abuse among the youth of Ngogwe archdeaconry Mukono diocese and it was guided by the following objectives; to investigate the causes of increased drug abuse in youth of Ngogwe archdeaconry Mukono diocese, to find the impacts of drug abuse on the youth of youth of Ngogwe archdeaconry Mukono diocese and to the possible measures to curb down drug abuse among the youth of youth of Ngogwe archdeaconry Mukono diocese. This study design was description survey design which was qualitative in nature. The total sample was 30 respondents who responded positively to the questionnaire distributed. The researcher observed that drug abuse is a problem that is causing serious concern to individuals, church and government all over the world. The problem is prevalent among adolescents who in most cases are ignorant about the dangers inherit in drug abuse. Many of them engaged in drug abuse out of unemployment, frustration, poverty, lack of parental supervision, peer influence and pleasure. However, with effective counseling program, the problems can be tackled. Study findings revealed a great existence of unemployment among the youth in the study area leading to idleness among the youths and community residents in general, initiation of a youth group could offer youth opportunities for actualizing their self-help potentials. Further, the youth groups provided a forum or a platform in the process of raising awareness and providing knowledge to youth about the effects of drug abuse to end the rampant community ignorance in the study area. Recreational activities should be designed as part of the youth group programs such as sporting activities to keep the youth busy to reduce idleness in the study area. These should ensure community participation in all stages of implementation of the programs from planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
