dc.description.abstract | This research is based on the study of challenges facing God’s mandatefor marriage in Genesis 2:18-25 in Kasilo Archdeaconry Soroti Diocese. The research study was carried out in the “ten” (10)Church Anglican parishes of: Labor, Pingire, Kadungulu, Kidetok, Olwa, Kamod, Apapai, Toror, Agulei, and Kagwara in Kasilo Archdeaconry. The objectives of this study were; To examine God’s mandate for marriage in Genesis 2:18 25, secondly to assess the challenges facing God’s mandate for marriage in Kasilo Archdeaconry, and thirdly to apply the lessons learnt from the biblical text to address the challenges facing God’s mandate for marriage (maintenance of healthy marriages) in Kasilo Archdeaconry today. In the process of gathering information about the challenges facing God’s mandate for marriage or the maintenance of healthy marriages in Kasilo Archdeaconry, I used a purposive sample size population of forty (40) respondents. These respondents included; priests, civil servants, political leaders, traditional/cultural leaders, lay-readers, head of laities, mother’s union leaders, youth leaders and some people of sound mind in the community in arriving to this analyzed data. The research findings have indicated that there are enormous challenges facing God’s mandate for marriage (maintenance of healthy marriages) in Kasilo Archdeaconry that include; unfaithfulness of couples in marriage, there is failure of married couples to manage financial resources, domestic violence which is both physical and emotional, high value placed on payment of dowery, childlessness, poor personal hygiene and sanitation, alcoholism and drug and substance abuse, rampant men’s malfunctioning, ungodliness, ignorance and illiteracy in couples, modernization (change in behavior and copied lifestyle), indiscipline of grownup children, cohabitation, illness among others have put a thunder into many healthy marriages thus causing rampant divorces, separations, murders, child neglect. This has made many to lose faith and trust in marriages. This text of Genesis 2:18-25 therefore has helped to rediscover the purpose, nature and beauty that marriage had in the beginning and help the present generation to appreciate marriage once again as purposively ordained by God for the good of mankind. | |
