Abstract
This study looked into how electronic point of sale systems affected the coordination of the supply chain in a retail business, specifically, the Mega Standard Supermarket in Kampala, Uganda. The study's three main goals were to ascertain how the supply chain’s coordination was impacted by the EPOS systems’ information-sharing capabilities, inventory replenishment support, and stock management efficacy. This study used a case study research design and a quantitative research methodology. 52 respondents completed questionnaires to provide data, which were further examined using the SPSS software, both inferential statistics (correlation analysis) and descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, averages, and standard deviations) were used. The results showed a statistically significant positive association between supply chain coordination and the POS systems’ ability to share information and their stock control effectiveness. Supply chain coordination was found to have a statistically negligible link with inventory replenishment support, notwithstanding their favorable relationship. In summary, suggestions were made for improved system integration, provision of
comprehensive training, and ensuring reliable ICT infrastructure since even though the use of EPOS systems, which provide real-time data regarding stocks, helps in proper coordination of the supply chain, their role had been restricted by various factors, such as lack of system integration with suppliers and inadequate infrastructure.
