Abstract
Divorce has in large measure influenced significantly the academic performance of People, thus lowering their opportunities, retention and academic progress. Though performance is essential for academic success, most performance indicators of People lack major improvement particularly in areas of attendance, concentration and class promotion which have all been blamed on Divorce. This study which Analyses the impact of Divorce on People ‘s academic welfare, took place in the Northern City Division Mbale City , of eastern Uganda. The objectives of this study were To investigate the causes of Divorce in Northern City Division. To identify how Divorce affect the Socio-Economic wellbeing in Northern City Division, and To evaluate intervention measures that have been adopted in attempt to minimize Divorce and improve the Socio-Economic wellbeing of Mbale City.
The investigated population was seventy, Causal cooperative research design was adopted, qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the presentation and analysis of data. The study found out that war and conflicts were significant in bringing about Divorce including poverty and negative personality traits . it was also found that, child abuse and gender based violence as well as child abandonment by parents accelerated the rate and incidences of child abuses, However , the effects on People’s performance are significant. Divorce takes a big toll of People’s work concentrations. Abuse of school age going children for example have two outstanding characteristics, that is; they are more often absent from school and this fuels their dropout with significant reduction in class attendance rates . The researcher recommended, Guidance and counseling programs to be undertaken, need to rebuild broken relationships and strengthening the law on child protection and punishing those who abuse them as this would act as benchmarks for improving their work performance.
