Abstract
This dissertation was undertaken toinvestigate the effects of socio-economic factors on access to quality education to the orphans and vulnerable children of kalas girls’ primary school. It was guided by three objectives; to assess the effect of household income levels on school enrollment rates of orphans and vulnerable children of Kalas Girls Primary School, to analyze the effect of housing conditions on the availability of educational resources for orphans and vulnerable children, to evaluate the effect of access to healthcare on the teacher-student ratio of orphans and vulnerable children of Kalas Girls Primary School. The researcher used a sample size of 63 respondents and used questionnaires and interview guide to collect data and later the data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results of the first objective showed that household income levelshave a significant effect onschool enrollment rates of orphans and vulnerable children of Kalas Girls Primary School. Supported by the following responses; 54% of the respondents were positive to the statement that poverty is a major obstacle to educational advancement for orphans and vulnerable children; 62% were positive to the statement that vulnerable children from low-income households face barriers to education, including lack of resources, limited access to quality schools, and higher opportunity costs; 61% of the respondents were positive to the statement that presence of other risk factors such as household food insecurity and exposure to violence can further hinder school enrollment rates of orphans and vulnerable children. Results of the second objective revealed that housing conditions have a significant effect on the availability of educational resources for orphans and vulnerable children of Kalas Girls Primary School. Supported by the following responses; 56% of the respondents were positive to the statement that children living in overcrowded and dilapidated housing are more likely to experience difficulties in completing homework, due to limited space and lack of privacy. Results of the third objective showed thataccess to healthcarehas a significant effect on the teacher-student ratio of orphans and vulnerable children of Kalas Girls Primary School. 75% were positive to the statement that increased access to medical care resulted in improved health outcomes for orphans, leading to decreases in absenteeism and increased attention and engagement in the classroom. The government should implement education and vocational training programs to can help enhance the household income levels of orphans and vulnerable children. By providing them with skills and knowledge, they can gain employment opportunities and generate income for their families.
