Abstract

The study was carried out purposely to determine the impact of procurement practices on operational performances in private organizations with WEND AFRICA as the Case-study. The main objectives of the study were to determine how procurement planning impacts on operational performance, to establish the impact of performance measurements on operational performance, and to determine the relationship between procurement practices and operational performances at WEND AFRICA. Qualitative research design was used in the study as it helped the researcher to observe the emotions of the participants. Quantitative research design approach was also used as it helped the researcher to collect and analyze numerical data. The study targeted a population size of 25 employees from the different departments of the organization. Non-probability sampling technique was used the study as it enabled the researcher to obtain data and information. The methods of data collection used in the study were questionnaires, direct observation, and interview and focus groups. Data was collected using questionnaires, analyzed, interpreted and presented using tables, pie-charts and graphs. The study found out that procurement planning had a strong positive impact on operational performances in a way that it defined how a company acquired its materials, ensured that purchases reached in time and determined the items to be procured. The findings on the impact of performance measurements on operational performance was that; it helped WEND AFRICA to identify their strengths and weaknesses, areas of improvement, top high performers, and timely output of goods and services. The study also found out that the relationship between procurement practices and operational performances was strongly positive as there was building of procurement management framework and engaging suppliers. The study concluded that effective procurement practices play a significant role in shaping operational performance in a way that it optimizes supplier relationship and streamlines processes. The study ended by recommending WEND AFRICA to put in place appropriate measures to ensure that the negative impacts of procurement planning is prevented, to train their employees and embrace the use of procurement planning more in order to control the issues of unnecessary costs, poor quality goods and services.
