| dc.description.abstract | The study examined the effects of single parenting on the educational well-being of children in Ngora District, Eastern Uganda. The study particularly looked and focused on the hardships undertaken by children brought up in single parented household in relation to school development in relation to school attendance, academic performance, access to learning materials. The findings showed that family set ups and influence greatly affected the educational development of children in society. The different challenges faced by many single parents have become a hurdle to the educational development and the academic excellence of children due to the inability of the parents to provide the basic materials they children need to facilitate their educational progress. The study showed that mental stability of parents contributed to the academic progress of their children as any mental health problems faced by the parents are directly transited to their children which affects their academic development. The study in conclude came to certainty that single parenting heavily contributes to the children’s educational well-being due to contributory factors such as high levels of poverty, low parental involvement in the children’s academic activities, mental distress and limited social support. The study recommended more government involvement and support in children’s educational development through providing bursaries and other aid programs, strengthening school guidance and counseling services, and greater community involvement in supporting vulnerable children. The study emphasized that improving children’s education requires coorperation among parents, schools, government, and the wider community. | |
