Item Effect of Street Vending on the Lives of Pupils in Western Division, Tororo Municipality, Tororo District(Uganda Christian University, 2023-07-31) Doris Joyce AkisaDespite of various child protection measures at both national and international levels, children have continued to live risky and degrading lives. Majority of who live in heavily degraded environments doing activities or work that is detrimental to their lives and schooling. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of street vending on lives of pupils in Western Division of Tororo Municipality, Tororo district. Specifically, the study was aimed at finding out the forms of street vending and the effect of street vending on lives of pupils in Western Division of Tororo Municipality, Tororo district the study also examined measures of preventing pupils from engaging in street vending in Western Division of Tororo Municipality, Tororo district. The study used qualitative research approach and a case study design of 15 participants who include local leaders (LL), local people (LP) and children involved in street vending (CSV) were interviewed. Data was collected from participants using interview method. The study found that food vending is one of the vending activities that pupils are involved in. other forms of street vending in which children are involved in are mobile technology vending, fresh product vending, vending in clothes and vending in scholastic materials. This Study findings also show that pupils who engage in street vending experience poor nutrition as well as poor school academic performance among pupils and street vending results in pupils committing juvenile crimes. Findings also show that teenage marriages among pupils are results of street vending in Western division of Tororo Municipality. The study recommended passing legislation and policy may help prevent pupils from engaging in street vending as well as creating education and awareness. Other recommendations include implementing social support programmes utilizing child protection services and social support programmes may help prevent pupils from engaging in street vending.Item Substance Abuse and Socio-Demographic Factors Associated With Academic Performace in Universal Secondary (Use) in Industrial Division of Mbale City(Uganda Christian University, 2024) Mary NalumansiBackground: Many students today are under substance abuse resulting in failure to enroll in schools, perform poorly in academics and as a consequence, drop out of school. Objective: the major objective of this study was to assess substance abuse and academic performance in USE schools in the Industrial Division of Mbale City. Specifically, the study assessed substance abuse and academic performance as well as socio economic factors and academic performance in USE in Industrial Division of Mbale City.It also established socio-demographic factors and academic performance in the Industrial Division of Mbale City. Method: The study used a cross-sectional study with the help of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from 80 respondents in the Industrial Division using a semi-structured questionnaire and interview guide. A purposive sampling technique was used to select research participants and data analysis was done using tables Results: Study findings show that substance abuse leads to school dropout as supported by 49% of study participants. Students who abuse drugs perform poorly academically (50%) and usually miss classes (56%) leading to low academic performance. Additionally, the level of family income determines the incidence of substance abuse where students from high-income families are substance abusers (46%) and those students with parents without education also abuse drugs (28%). Other socio-economic factors of substance abuse include peer pressure (31%) and gender (55%). There are socio-demographic factors of substance abuse that significantly influence academic performance such as place of residence (43%) and age (55%). Conclusions: Students who experience substance abuse perform poorly and drop out of school. Those from affluent families in urban settings can experience substance abuse irrespective of age and peer influence. Recommendations: The government through various law enforcement agencies should control drug and substance use including narcotics in schools. Schools in partnership with Ministry of Education and parents should also put in place policies and regulations help to control substance abuse among students and strive to undertake and promote effective teaching-learning processesItem Socio-Economic and Demographic Factors Associated With Enhancing Reproductive Health of Women in Bunyafa Sub County Sironko District(Uganda Christian University, 2024) Morren NamuhengeBackground: many women do not have access to reproductive health leading to high morbidity and high child mortality Objective: this aimed at assessing social -economic and Demographic factors associated with enhancing reproductive health of women in Bunyafa sub county sironko Method: the study used cross sectional study with the help of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from 80respondents in Bunyafa sub county using a structured questionnaire and interview guide. Purpossive sampling technique was used to select research participants. Quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statics and content analysis for qualitative data. Results: the findings of research study show that limited decision making(39 percent) hinder access to reproductive health services by women alongside gender roles (29percent). In addition socio-demographic factors of age(36 percent) and place of residence(rural or urban) (45 percent) determines Access to reproductive health of women. Further soco economic factors such as income levels (42percent), peer influence (53 percent) and levels of women's education have been cited as central determinants of access to reproductive health of women. Conclusion: young women without decision making power and residing in rural areas with low income and low education levels have been found to have less or no access to reproductive health. Recommendation: the ministry of health together with gender, labour and social development counterpart should strengthen enforcement of policies regarding universal access to reproductive health by women, curtail social exclusion and improve availability, accessibility and utilization of reproductive health by women. Also the government should reduce taxation on entrepreneural businesses so as to boost economic household income through business incubation, Skilling an parish development model for the empowerment of marginalized and economically unsound person including women groups.Item THE EFFECT OF GENDER INEQUALITY ON PSYCHOSOCIAL WELBEING OF WOMEN IN KAMUTUR SUB COUNTY BUKEDEA DISTRICT(2024) TINO ESEZA FLORENCEItem An Analysis on the Contribution of Sage on the Socioeconomic Wellbeing in the Lives of the Elderly Living in Northern Division, Mbale City(Uganda Christian University, 2024-02-23) Divine Hope MugideThe purpose of this was study was to find out contribution of sage on the socioeconomic wellbeing in the lives of the elderly living in northern division Mbale city. The study was guide by the three objectives to examine the spread and performance of the sage program on the elderly persons living. Identify the effectiveness of the evaluation system of the sage activity program, establish the impact of the sage program on the socioeconomic wellbeing of the elderly living in the areas of the northern division Mbale city. The study was both qualitative and quantitative. The study employed purposive sampling basing on their area of expertise in the study. The sample of the study was small with a total number of 67respondents, 16 beneficiaries and 4 key informants this was because of limited resources and time. Data was collected through structured questionnaires, in-depth interviews and interview guides. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS software and it was presented using tables for easy understanding and qualitative data was analyzed thematically for easy understanding of the statistical information to all readers. The findings of the study presented the general overview of how the elderly benefited socially and economically from the SAGE program for instance they have accumulated asserts like phones, farm land, chairs among others from SAGE program, the business or income generating project that the elderly are engaging for example shop selling, bar selling, salon operation among others and the skills that they have learnt and have helped them to manage or operate their businesses. The findings of the study also presented various reasons that have helped these elderly to accumulate asserts for example team work among others. The current situation before joining the program whereby the life has improved according to the majority and some challenges that they face towards accessing the funds.Item Socio-Economic Factors Associated With the Proportion of Girl Children in Upe Schools of Budaka Sub – County: A case study of Nakisenye primary school, Budaka district(Uganda Christian University, 2024-05-08) Alicia MugalaBackground: Despite of various interventions to retain girl children in UPE schools, the proportion of girls who are retained is still low. This research was undertaken to assess the socio- economic factors associated with Proportion of girl children in primary schools of Budaka District Objectives: The study was guided by three objectives; to investigate the proportion of girl children who have been retained in primary schools of Nakisenye primary school, to analyze socio-economic factors associated with Proportion of a girl child in primary schools of Nakisenye primary school, to determine the demographic factors associated with Proportion of a girl child in primary schools of Nakisenye primary school Method: The study used cross-sectional study with the help of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from 36 respondents Nakisenye primary school using a semi structured questionnaire and interview guide. Purposive sampling technique was used to select research participants and data analysis was done using tables. Results: Study findings show that fewer girls complete primary schooling cycle as supported by 49% of study participants. Many girls dropout of school (50%) and usually miss classes (56%) leading to school dropout. Additionally, poverty and social norms and practices influences Proportion of girl child children in UPE schools (46%) and (28%) respectively Conclusion: Other socio-economic factors of substance abuse include household incomes (31%) and place of residence (55%). There are socio-demographic factors of girl children Proportion in UPE schools are early child bearing influences Proportion of girl child children in UPE Schools (43%) and gender (55%). Recommendations: Government through ministry of education should implement Proportion policies for girl child in UPE schools. Schools in partnership with Ministry of Education and parents should also put in place policies and regulations that keep girls in schools and ensure that they complete schooling cycle Key Words: Prevalence, Socio-economic determinatesItem THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION ON ORGANISATION PERFORMANCE OF TORORO CEMENT INDUSTRY(Uganda christian university, 2024-07) Gidudu,charlesThis study investigated the impact of various motivational factors on employee performance at Tororo Cement Limited, with a focus on allowances, non-monetary rewards, and attractive salaries. The research aimed to examine the effects of these factors on employee achievement of organizational goals, effectiveness, and efficiency. The targeted population consisted of 260 employees, out of which 103 responded, providing data through interviews and focus group discussions. The findings indicated that allowances, particularly for transport (69.6%), housing (60.1%), and medical expenses (53.8%), significantly contribute to employees' motivation by reducing their personal financial burdens, thereby enhancing their focus on achieving organizational goals. Non-monetary rewards, such as a positive work environment (75.9%), recognition (65.2%), and career development opportunities (50.6%), were also found to play a crucial role in improving employee effectiveness. Additionally, a strong positive relationship was identified between attractive salaries and employee efficiency, with 57.0% of respondents perceiving their salaries as fair and competitive, leading to increased commitment and productivity. The study concluded that a balanced approach incorporating both financial incentives and non-financial rewards is essential for enhancing employee motivation and performance. Recommendations included regular review and adjustment of allowances and salaries, fostering a positive work environment, implementing recognition programs, and providing career development opportunities. Future research could further explore the long-term impacts of these motivational strategies on employee retention and organizational performance.Item Effects of Domestic Violence on the Psycho-Social Well Being of Children in Pallisa Town Council, Pallisa District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-19) Shem ArineitweThe research was undertaken to investigate on effects of domestic violence on the psycho-social wellbeing of children in Pallisa town council, Pallisa district. The researcher used a sample size of 63 respondents, questionnaires and interview guide to collect data and data analysis was done using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results of the first objective showed that power imbalances had a significant effect on psycho-social wellbeing of children in Pallisa town council. The second objective revealed that substance abuse has a significant effect on psycho-social wellbeing of children in Pallisa town council. While the third objective showed that learned behavior had a significant effect on psycho-social wellbeing of children in Pallisa town council. The government should provide accurate and age-appropriate information about substance abuse, its risks, and consequences could help children make informed choices substance abuse prevention programs in schools and community settings can contribute to increased awareness.Item The Effects of Social Economic Factors on the Well-Being of Youth, a Case Study of Napak Town Council, Napak District”(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-24) Godfrey LotukeiDespite of numerous interventions by both government and development partners, wellbeing of youths has continued to go down.This study assessed the effect of socio-economic factors on the wellbeing of the youths in Napak Town Council of Napak district of Karamoja sub region of North Eastern Uganda. The major objective of this study was to therefore to assess the effect of socio-economic factors on the wellbeing of the youths in Napak Town Council. Specifically, the study investigated the effect of unemployment on the wellbeing of the youths in Napak Town Council in Napak district and assessed the effects of education levels on the wellbeing of the youth in Napak Town Council in Napak district. It also investigated the effect of income levels on the wellbeing of the youth in Napak Town Council in Napak district. The study used cross-sectional design to analyze data from the study area with the help of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The researcher collected data from 80 respondents in the study area who were selected using simple random and purpose sampling and questionnaires together with interview guide were used to collect data from study subjects. The study found that youths in Napak Town Council who lack jobs have low level of wellbeing and unemployment has resulted into lack of decent shelter among the youths in Napak Town council. Unemployed youths in Napak town council do not have access to basic social services and poor health outcomes are associated with unemployment among youths. Additionally, youths without education in Napak Town Council do not have formal employment and in Napak town council, illiterate youths are poor with low levels of wellbeing. Also youths with low education lack skills for self employment and youths with tertiary education and above have access to basic social services compared to their counterparts with low education. Other findings indicate that youths with low incomes in Napak town council have fewer assets and lack of saving among the youths is associated with low incomes.Lows income levels was also found to contribute to lack of investment among youths in Napak town council and youths with higher incomes have better health outcomes. The researcher recommended implementation of programmes and projects that have direct bearing of youth wellbeing and such programmes should be participatory, inclusive and sustainable.Item Socio-Cultural Factors and the Utilization of Antenatal Care Services in Budaka Health Centre IV, Budaka District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-25) Esther SabanoThis Research study was conducted at Budaka Health Centre IV in District Local Government in Eastern Uganda. The study was intended to investigate the factors affecting the utilization of antenatal care services in Budaka Health Centre IV, Budaka District. In the study, Maternal health education was taken as the independent variable while utilization of antenatal care services as the dependent variable. Doctors, Clinical officer, Nurses, mothers, and other health staffs provided primary data for the study. The research was mostly qualitative in nature, with minor mathematics used. The study adopted a cross sectional survey design. The sampling techniques included purposive sampling for Doctors and clinical officers and simple random for Nurses and mothers. In order to gather data, questionnaires were issued to clinical officers and doctors whereas mothers and other staff were interviewed. To analyze the collected data, quantitative methods were used to establish frequencies and percentages. Qualitative means were also used whereby themes and quotations were made. The researcher carried out the study by physically interviewing Health workers, mothers and group employees etc. The data collected by research assistants and the researcher were put together for analysis and the analysis was brought out in chapter four. Chapter five covers mostly summary discussion of finding, conclusions, and recommendations by the researcher. Key findings of the study revealed that educated pregnant women utilise antenatal care services, they are aware and knowledgeable of the services of antenatal care services and the easily access antenatal care services. The biggest challenge faced was the inadequate funding. This can be addressed if a fee called research emergency is introduced. This can facilitate the smooth management of the exercise. The study recommends that Outreaches should be set in all the villages to operate on a weekly basis to allow the pregnant mothers who come from very far to access antenatal care services at a nearby place.Item The Impact of Substance Abuse on the Psychosocial Well-Being of the Youths in Pamba Ward, Soroti City West(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-25) Brenda AjwangThe study explored the impact of substance abuse on psychosocial well-being of the youths in Pamba Ward, Soroti City West. Despite the programs, interventions and the initiatives put by the government and World Health Organization to combat substance abuse, there was still a high knowledge gap on information on substance abuse which led to low psycho-social well-being of the youths in this area. The study found out that alcohol, marijuana, opium and tobacco stood to be the most commonly abused drugs and impacted the psychosocial well-being of the youth negatively physically, socially and emotionally. The study was conducted using interview guide and focus group discussions. The study recommended that issues related to psychosocial well-being of the youth should be given priority in the interventions by involving parents, local council leaders, community, schools and religious groups at the local level to support the psychosocial well-being of the youth in the area.Item The Impact of Rural Women’s Access to Economic Resources on the Wellbeing of Their Households in Asuret Sub-county, Soroti District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-25) Sharon Evelyne AbejaThe research investigated the impact of rural women’s access to economic resources on the well-being of their households in Asuret Sub County, Soroti district. The study identified a gap in rural women access to economic resources despite government efforts in programs like UWEP, EMYOOGA, PDM, and NAADS. The study adopted purposive sampling technique, qualitative research design, data analysis through coding and data collection methods of interviews and focused group discussions. The study found access to friendly micro-credit, responsive public policy management, protection of women, and access to land and property rights key determinants for access to economic resources, rural women access to economic resources as not the only factor responsible for the well-being of their households. Future researchers should consider assessing the factors for economic prosperity among women. The study concluded that there was a strong positive relationship between women access to economic resources and the well-being of their households.Item Socio-Economic Factors and Access to Health Care Services in Northern Division, Mbale City(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-27) Sharon TaakaThis research study was guided by the topic Socio-Economic Factors and Access to Health Care Services in Northern Division. And it was guided by the following research objectives: To assess the effect of gender on access to health care services in Northern City Division Mbale City, to examine the effect of educational levels on access to health care services in Northern City Division Mbale City and lastly to investigate the effect of age on access to health care services in Northern City Division Mbale City. The study used both a quantitative and qualitative research design and it considered a population of 100 respondents with a sample size of 80 respondents. The study findings concluded that women and men health access is influenced by their gender interaction, that gender roles coupled with domestic expectations compromise health care access, that men with a more masculine gender orientation are less likely to go for health care counseling, that education levels affect access to health care services, that education attainment is an indication of literacy levels and impacts healthcare outcomes, that aging consumer decision making brings differences between older individuals in relation to the trust they have in the service provider, that if old people are constrained by levels of income, they end up not making right decisions and lastly that that health care is affected by age differences because older people have greater need for health care. The study findings concluded that: women and men health access is influenced by their gender interaction, that women access to health care is influenced by their gender due to community perceptions/societies they stay, that education levels affect access to health care services, that education attainment is an indication of literacy levels and impacts healthcare outcomes, that aging consumer decision making brings differences between older individuals in relation to the trust they have in the service provider, and lastly that if old people are constrained by levels of income, they end up not making right decisions.Item The Effect of Alcoholism on the Socio-Economic Wellbeing of the People in Nambale Sub-county, Mbale District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-29) James WasukiraThis research report was undertaken to the effect of alcoholism on the socio-economic wellbeing of the people in Nambale sub-county, Mbale district. It was guided by three objectives; to analyze the relationship between alcoholism and socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county, to determine the effect of social cultural influences on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county, to find out the effect of co-occurring mental health on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. The researcher used a sample size of 63 respondents and used questionnaires and interview guide to collect data and later the data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results of the first objective showed that there is a positive relationship between alcoholism and socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. Supported by the following responses; 54% individuals with alcoholism experience higher rates of poverty, financial instability; 62% were positive to the statement that individuals with lower income or education levels are more susceptible to alcoholism; 61% of the respondents were positive to the statement that socio-economic disadvantage limit access to recreational activities and resources, driving individuals toward increased alcohol consumption as a coping mechanism. Results of the second objective revealed that social cultural influences have a significant effect on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. Supported by the following responses; 56% of the respondents were positive to the statement that peer pressure and conformity within social groups can influence individuals' economic behaviors and choices, 80% of the respondents were positive to the statement that cultures that prioritize personal achievement and success may foster economic growth and higher socio-economic well-being. Results of the third objective showed that co-occurring mental health has a significant effect on socio-economic wellbeing of people in Nambale sub-county. 51% had a positive response to the statement that co-occurring mental health disorders can hinder an individual's social participation and quality of life. The government should provide accessible and quality education to all individuals can help enhance their skills and knowledge, which in turn can improve their socio-economic well-being and understanding of diverse cultural perspectives.Item Influence of Cultural Factors on the Rate of School Dropout in Nangako Town Council, Bududa District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-29) Loyce NabutsaleThis research report was undertaken to investigate on effect of cultural factors on the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council, Bududa District. It was guided by three objectives; to examine the effect of cultural norms on the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council, to determine the effect of cultural values on the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council, to assess the effect of cultural beliefs on the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council. This research used a sample size of 36 respondents, questionnaires and interview guide were used to collect data which was later analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences. Results of the first objective showed that cultural norms have a significant effect on the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council., Supported by the following responses; 44% strongly agreed, 22% agreed to the statement that societies with higher expectations for educational attainment tend to have lower dropout rates due to the perceived value and necessity of education; 25% strongly agreed, 19% agreed to the statement that societies that challenge gender biases and promote gender equality tend to have lower dropout rates among both boys and girls; 42% strongly agreed, 8% agreed to the statement that active parental engagement, such as monitoring academic progress. On the other hand,25% disagreed, 36% strongly disagreed constituting the majority were negative to statement that cultures that prioritize other aspects, such as early marriage or labor, may inadvertently discourage educational persistence, leading to higher dropout rates.Results of the second objective revealed that cultural values affect the rate of school dropout in Nangako Town Council and were supported by the following responses which include; 14% strongly agreed, 28% agreed to the statement that cultural values play a substantial role in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of individuals within a community. Supported by14% strongly agreed, 47% agreed to the statement that cultural beliefs that assign greater value to female domesticity and male breadwinning contribute to higher dropout rates among young women, 14% strongly agreed, 33% agreed to the statement that parental expectations and the persistence of cultural beliefs within ethnic communities can also be influential factors in the rate of school dropout. There is need to engage the community in promoting cultural values and increasing awareness about the importance of education. Organize cultural events within the community and involve students to showcase and celebrate their cultural heritage.Item The Effect of Gender Inequality on Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment in Ogolai Sub-county, Amuria District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-29) Felistuss IjorengThis study sought to establish the effects of gender inequality on the socio-economic empowerment of women in Ogolai Sub-County, Amuria District, Uganda. Gender inequality remains a pervasive issue with profound implications for the socio-economic empowerment of women, particularly in rural regions of Uganda like Ogolai Sub County in Amuria District. This research study endeavored to comprehensively investigate the multifaceted effects of gender inequality on the socio-economic empowerment of women in this specific geographical context. Drawing upon a mixed-methods approach, this research examined the disparities in access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and land ownership between women and men in Ogolai Sub County. The study also assessed the extent to which prevailing gender roles, patriarchal societies, and gender stereotypes influence the status of women in the community. Additionally, the research investigated the economic consequences of gender inequality, including income differentials, financial dependency, and limited access to credit and entrepreneurial resources for women. It also explores the psychological and emotional toll of gender-based discrimination on women's self-esteem and aspirations. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the localized challenges and opportunities for addressing gender inequality in Ogolai Sub County, thereby fostering more effective interventions to enhance the socio-economic empowerment of women. This research underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of gender inequality, advocating for policy reforms, and promoting gender-sensitive initiatives that enable women to lead more economically self-reliant and fulfilling lives. Ultimately, the study's insights aimed to inform the development of strategies and programs that promote gender equality and empower women, with the expectation that a more equitable society will lead to improved overall socio-economic development and well-being in Ogolai Sub county, Amuria District, and beyond.Item Factors Influencing Domestic Violence in Binyiny Town Council, Kween District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-30) Agnes ChelimoBackground: Domestic violence is a pervasive issue in Uganda, with severe consequences for survivors. Limited research exists on the factors influencing domestic violence in rural Uganda. Objective: To explore the factors influencing domestic violence in Binyiny Town Council, Kween District. Methods: A cross-sectional qualitative study was conducted with 124 women aged 18-65 years. Data was collected through interviews and surveys. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: 65% of women experienced domestic violence, Gender roles, power imbalance, education level, employment status, monthly income, residence, and cultural social norms emerged as significant factors. Conclusion: This study highlights the complexity of domestic violence in rural areas of Uganda, Binyiny Town Council. Recommendations: Community-based interventions addressing gender roles and power dynamics, economic empowerment programs for women, support services for survivors of domestic violence, policy changes to prevent domestic violence should strictly be emphasized and implemented. This study examined the effect of teenage pregnancy on girl’s education in Bukiende Sub County in Mbale district. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of teenage pregnancy on girl’s education in Bukiende Sub County, Mbale District. Specifically, the study was aimed at investigating factors contributing to teenage pregnancies among girls in Bukiende Sub County Mbale District and assesses their effects on the girls. It also examined interventions that can be taken to prevent teenage pregnancies and promote girls’ Education in Bukiende Sub County Mbale District. The study used qualitative research approach and a case study design of 15 participants who included teachers, parents, local leaders and teenage girls were interviewed. Documentary analysis was also used to gather relevant data to help answer research questions. Also female genital mutilation (FGM) has often caused limitations for school attendance since after FGM it means the girls is ready for marriage and early engagement in sexual activities and exposure to pornographic materials has the potential to contribute to teenage pregnancy. Findings also show that teenage pregnancy significantly increases the risk of suicidal ideation and attempted suicide for young people and this leads to school dropout and teenage pregnancies lead to emotional and psychological torture which disrupt schooling and a strong relationship between teenage pregnancy and a range of mental health problems. A number of interventions are needed to help prevent teenage pregnancies and promote the education of the girl child and providing life skills and raising awareness of the issue of girls’ education. There should be widespread existence of laws prohibiting negative cultural practices which lead to teenage pregnancies and address teenage pregnancies as a violation of universal human rights and also put in place approaches that to change norms at community level and reduce girls’ school dropout. The researcher recommendations that government and stakeholders should put in place measures of preventing abduction also called kidnapping which is considered as one of the factors contributing to teenage pregnancy and also sensitize parents and girls on the dangers of teenage pregnancies in a bid to prevent the vice. Other recommendations by the study include parents and schools should endeavor to mobilize enough funds to help provide the needs of the girl child. This will go a long way in mitigating problems related to teenage pregnancies and government together with stakeholders should there is need to put in place approaches that to change norms at community level and reduce girls’ school dropout.Item Uganda Christian University-Mbale University College the Impact of Childlessness on Maried Couples in Akoromit Sub County, Kapelebyong District(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-30) Prossy AjumoThe general objective of the study is the impacts of childlessness on married couples in Akoromit Sub County. Having seen that this type of study was not conducted in this area, there was a need to do it as the only way to bridge the gaps amongst couples, like communication gap, integrity /respect and love in families. The amount of pain, emotional trauma and psychological torture that the childless women go through is unquantifiable and immeasurable. Because of the stigmatization of women and the pressure on them they are often driven to consult in darkness spiritualists and native doctors. Some women suffer abuses also at the hands of these spiritualists and native doctors. Some are raped and forced to succumb to various demands of these spiritualists. This study was guided by the following three standard objectives and these are; to explore the causes of childlessness on married couple couples in Akoromit Sub County, to assess the impact of childlessness on married couples who are childless in Akoromit Sub County and to determine the solutions for the families which are childless in Akoromit Sub County? A case study was used for the research design. It was a qualitative approach used for data collection. A sample size of 10 respondents was selected for the discussion. Indeed the impact of childlessness on married couples has affected the lives of people whereby it’s seen that some chose voluntarily not to have children and some involuntarily.Item Role of Business Community in Waste Management in Kamonkoli Town Council(Uganda Christian University, 2024-07-30) Ronald LipotoThe study aimed to investigate the role of the business community in waste management within Kamonkoli Town Council, focusing on participation levels, motivating factors, and challenges faced. Employing a case study research design, data was collected from a study population of 40 individuals, with a sample size of 36 respondents. Purposive sampling targeted key stakeholders such as the town clerk, accounts officer, human resource manager, and auditors, while simple random sampling was used to select opinion leaders and councilors. Findings revealed both active engagement and significant challenges within the business community regarding waste management. Recommendations included intensified awareness campaigns to underscore the economic and environmental benefits of waste management, alongside training programs to enhance businesses' capacity in waste management techniques. The study identified economic incentives, streamlined regulatory frameworks, and fostering a culture of sustainability as key strategies to motivate businesses in waste management initiatives. It recommended collaborative efforts involving businesses, local authorities, and community stakeholders to address these challenges. Economic incentives such as tax breaks and subsidies were suggested to encourage businesses, alongside clearer regulatory guidelines and penalties for non-compliance. Additionally, fostering a culture of sustainability through awareness campaigns and networking events was proposed to overcome cultural and social barriers. Collaborative platforms for knowledge sharing and resource pooling were also recommended to promote collective action and address common challenges in waste management.
