It was guided by three main objectives: to identify the causes of stress within households, examine how stress affects household development, and propose strategies to reduce stress and promote family well-being. A descriptive survey design was used, combining both qualitative and quantitative approaches to gain a well-rounded understanding of the issue. The research involved 99 participants, including household members, local leaders, community development officers, and health workers, who provided data through structured questionnaires and interviews. The study's descriptive survey approach allows for the collection of both qualitative and quantitative data. To ensure that all groups were fairly represented, stratified random sampling was employed. Focus groups, key informant interviews, and structured questionnaires were used to collect data. While qualitative data was thematically investigated to reveal deeper patterns and insights linked to household stress and development, quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. The results showed that households are impacted by a number of stressors. One of the main causes was financial instability, which made it hard for families to pay for necessities like food, medical care, and education. Family disputes (such domestic abuse and marital problems), pressure from the workplace, particularly for breadwinners, and health problems including chronic disease and incapacity were additional stressors. Household members' stress levels were also observed to rise in response to peer pressure, societal expectations, and the demands of modern living. It has been demonstrated that stress has a broad impact on household development. People who were under stress found it difficult to concentrate and work efficiently, which resulted in lower income levels and decreased economic production. There were also more incidences of anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, and related disorders, which had a negative impact on mental and physical health. Family ties were upset by prolonged stress, which frequently resulted in divorce, neglect, and bad parenting. Additionally, it resulted in poor financial decision-making, which had an adverse effect on financial planning, savings, and investments. Stress in the family was linked to children's low academic performance and difficulties focusing. The study suggested a number of stress-reduction techniques to deal with these issues. These included providing community-based guidance and counselling services via peer support groups and experts. To increase household income, the government and non-governmental organizations were urged to support economic empowerment initiatives such as financial literacy, income-generating activities, and vocational training. The study also underlined how crucial it is to improve family ties through dispute resolution techniques, parenting classes, and open communication. It was believed that raising awareness of mental health issues through community initiatives was essential to assisting people in recognising and better managing stress. The creation and execution of supportive policies by local governments, such as workplace mental health programs, accessible and reasonably priced healthcare, and community wellness programs, were among the other recommendations. Parents and students were encouraged to learn stress management techniques in schools. In order to lessen the financial strains that lead to stress, broader economic activities like job creation and better credit availability were also considered essential. According to the study, creative stress-reduction techniques catered to the unique circumstances of rural areas should be the focus of future research. The study concluded that stress significantly affects health, productivity, relationships, and education in Kyanamira Sub County, which in turn affects household development. In order to successfully address stress-related issues and advance long-term, sustainable development, it advocated for a cooperative, multi-sectorial strategy involving legislators, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, and households themselves.Item Electronic Fund Transfers and Business Growth Among SMEs in Kabale Municipality, Kabale District(Uganda Christian University, 2025) Martin MuhumuzaThe study looked into how small and medium-sized businesses in Kabale municipality's Kabale district grew in relation to electronic fund transfers. The study's three primary goals were to determine the relationship between mobile money use and business expansion among SMEs in Kabele Municipality. Analyze how automated teller machines affect SMEs' access to financing in Kabale Municipality and how debit cards affect their ability to expand their businesses. The study's results were reported using an across-sectional research design. 300 SMEs in the manufacturing, trade, and service sectors were included in the study. Purposive methods and basic random sampling were used to choose a sample of 169 SMEs. Questionnaires and an interview guide were used to gather data, and both descriptive and multiple regression analyses were used for analysis. The results showed a correlation between the use of EFTs and business growth, with EFTs explaining as little as 7.0% of the variance in business growth. While using debit cards and ATMs has no discernible impact on business growth, using mobile money has a big impact. According to the study's findings, there is very little correlation between EFT and business growth among SMEs in Kabele Municipality. Bankers should therefore try to contact SMEs and offer them incentives to open bank accounts, allowing them to use debit cards and ATMs. The study highlighted the connection between the expansion of SMEs in Kabale Municipality and electronic money transfers. With the advent of new financial inclusion strategies, EFT emerged as a cutting-edge money transfer technique. As a crucial instrument for advancing the objective of financial inclusion, electronic funds transfer services have been rapidly implemented throughout emerging countries, particularly by small and medium-sized enterprises. This has a significant impact on the commercial and economic sectors, as well as the financial industry. As a result of these innovative approaches, which enabled the unbanked to enter the banking industry, SMEs prospered. This chapter covers the background, goals, and conceptualization of EFT, as well as the expansion of SMEs.Item Face Capture-Based Employee Attendance System: A Case Study of Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital Mbarara(Uganda Christian University, 2024) Innocent ByarugabaThe Research will be conducted on 5th March 2024 at Holy Innocents Childrens’ Hospital located on Plot 6, Nyamitanga ward,Nyamitanga Division, Mbarara city South, Mbarara City, Uganda. The specific objectives were: to assess the effect of credit accessibility on youth entrepreneurial activities in Gicumbi District; to evaluate the influence of financial literacy programs offered by financial institutions on youth employment sustainability; and to analyze the relationship between collateral requirements and youth participation in loan schemes. The study adopted a descriptive research design and employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A sample size of 83 respondents was selected using purposive and random sampling techniques. The findings revealed that high interest rates significantly reduce the profitability of youth-led enterprises, limiting their ability to reinvest and create employment. Additionally, the study found that fluctuations in the Central Bank Rate (CBR) indirectly affect youth employment by influencing commercial lending rates, which impacts asset financing and business expansion. Short-term loans with high interest rates were found to undermine return on investment and restrict employment growth, while long-term loans with stable repayment structures were linked to better financial planning and increased hiring potential. Based on the findings, the study recommended that financial institutions and government agencies should promote access to affordable credit for youth, strengthen financial literacy programs, and encourage long-term financing solutions. Furthermore, regulatory bodies should stabilize the lending environment, and local authorities should establish a Youth Enterprise Development Fund to support entrepreneurial growth and employment creation among youth in Gicumbi District.Item Interest Rate and Profitabilty of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kabale Municipality, Kabale District Uganda(Uganda Christian University, 2025-10-06) Julius GumisirizaThe purpose of the study was aimed at assessing the effect of interest rate charged by commercial institutions on profitability and growth of SMEs in Kabale municipality Kabale District, Uganda. The objectives of the study were: to identify the procurement practices employed by Kanungu District Local Government, to examine the indicators of risk management within the procurement process in the district, and to evaluate the contribution of effective procurement practices to risk management. A descriptive survey design was employed, and data was collected from a sample of 80 respondents, including procurement officers, district officials, and service providers engaged in procurement activities. Findings from the study revealed that while there is some level of transparency and fair competition in the procurement system, several weaknesses persist, including limited adoption of e-procurement, unclear procurement policies, and a lack of emphasis on sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the study found out that although supplier evaluation and monitoring mechanisms exist, critical elements of risk management such as contingency planning, performance guarantees, and regular audits were either lacking or not well institutionalized. This implies that the district remains vulnerable to procurement inefficiencies and contractor-related risks. Furthermore, while certain practices like competitive tendering and policy clarity contribute to mitigating risk, the absence of staff training, ethical standards enforcement, and integrated risk strategies limits the district’s capacity to manage procurement-related risks effectively. The study concluded that effective procurement practices are essential in strengthening risk management frameworks and improving service delivery. It recommended that Kanungu District Local Government should adopt clear procurement policies, fully embrace e-procurement systems, institutionalize regular risk assessments, and invest in staff training and ethical procurement standards. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data from a sample of 80 respondents, including SACCO staff and members. Findings revealed that risk management policies significantly enhance member satisfaction by fostering a sense of financial security and trust. However, gaps remain in staff training and policy clarity, limiting the full impact of risk frameworks. The study also found that financial literacy programs positively influenced member behavior, improving financial decision-making, savings discipline, and participation in meetings. Nonetheless, the complexity of training materials poses a barrier to full comprehension, particularly among members with lower educational backgrounds. Furthermore, while many respondents linked risk practices to increased investment confidence, only a few recognized their broader contribution to rural economic development, indicating a lack of awareness and strategic integration. The study concludes that effective risk management and financial education are crucial to building a resilient and inclusive SACCO system that supports rural transformation. It recommends strengthening staff capacity in risk management, simplifying training content for better accessibility, and aligning SACCO risk strategies with rural development goals to promote sustainable livelihoods and community growth.
